The Greene County varsity softball team topped South Hamilton (Jewell) by a 4-1 score in Jefferson Monday evening.
Marissa Promes struck out 10 batters and walked one. The Hawks got five hits, all of them singles. Promes is 6-0 on the season.
The Rams put together 12 hits for their four runs, scoring once each in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings. The Rams stranded 11 batters on base.
Kayla Mobley hit a home run and a double. Emma Saddoris hit a triple and a single. They each had one RBI, as did Tressa Rasmussen on a single and Carleigh Paup on a sacrifice fly. Hannah Onken hit three singles, Rasmussen hit a total of two singles, Paup hit two singles, and Emily Christensen hit a single.
The Rams are now 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. They are ranked fifth in Class 3A.
